A program to train Christian leaders for the home and the church

The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.

Year 1

Focus is on how to study the Word, the teaching of the Word, and biblical leadership in the home, church and world. 

Year 2

Focus is on doctrine by looking at the elven major areas of systematic theology. 

Year 3

Focuses on exegesis of five books of the Bible with an introduction to the Greek and Hebrew languages and use of digital study tools. (Recommended for those desiring full-time Christian ministry, missions or future eldership). 

Class structure

  • Classes meet Thursday nights from 6:30-9:30pm.
  • Classes generally meet every other week from September to June.
  • There will be 20 classes a year.

Do you want to grow as a leader in your home or ministry at Grace? This leadership training may the next step!
We are looking for people that are faithful in regular attendance and service at Grace Baptist Church and desire to grow in ability and character. We are looking for people who are willing to commit to the entire year of training, including faithful class attendance, completion of  work and essential elements of the program. This program is free, however, students are asked to purchase their own required reading books. If you think this program would benefit you and you want to join, the first step is to fill out an application. Applying is not a guarantee of acceptance. Applications will be reviewed by the Elders and those qualified will be accepted. You must be at least 16 years of age to apply.

Class Instructors

Benjamin King

Director/Teacher
Benjamin grew up in a Christian home and came to faith in Christ as his personal Savior at a young age. He married his wife Melissa in 2010 and they have three children. Benjamin began serving as Pastor of Adult Ministries at Grace Baptist Church in 2018 after working for 5 years at Shasta Bible College (Dean of Students; Assistant Prof. of Bible and Theology). He is a graduate of Shasta Bible College (2010) and Northwest Baptist Seminary in 2013 (merging with Corban, Salem OR). In his spare time he enjoys working on the family ranch, fishing, hunting, and time with family.

Jon Cook

Teacher
Jon was raised in a Christian home and came to know Christ as his Savior during family devotions at the age of seven. He married his wife Patti in 2002 and they have three girls. Jon has previously served as an assistance pastor (San Jose), and then youth pastor for eight years (Los Gatos). Jon began his ministry here at Grace Baptist Church in August of 2015.  He is a graduate of Northland Baptist Bible College and Cornerstone Seminary (2008). Jon enjoys woodworking, reading, fishing, and spending time with his girls.

Timothy King

Teacher
Timothy was raised in a Christian home that taught him to trust in Christ at an early age, which he did. He married his wife Charity in 2019. He attended and graduated from Shasta Bible College, Redding CA (2018) and Faith Theological Seminary, Ankeny Iowa (2022). He lives in the Redding area and enjoys attending Grace Baptist, spending time with his family, and playing disc golf. 

Andrew Hawley

Teacher
Andrew has been involved in the ministry of Grace Baptist Church since 2005. He trusted Jesus Christ as Savior as a youth and enjoyed the blessing of a Christian home with 5 other siblings.  In 2012 Andrew married his wife Jamie, and they have three children. Andrew has been serving Grace Baptist Church as Youth Pastor since 2013 after graduating from Shasta Bible College. Andrew and his family enjoy the outdoors, archery, and most things recreational.

Mary Lee Huey

Teacher
Mary Lee accepted Christ as her Savior in Vacation Bible School as a young child.  She earned her Religious Education degree from Prairie Bible College in Alberta, Canada, then completed her teacher’s credential at Simpson University.  Mary Lee served as an elementary teacher at Grace’s Liberty Christian School for 20 years.  She and her husband Ed have three grown sons and a daughter-in-love.  Today, she enjoys helping her husband and mother live life, reading, and many fiber crafts such as sewing, quilting, spinning, weaving, and knitting.

Student responsibilities 

Scripture Reading

Students will read the entire New Testament over the course of the year.

Scripture Memorization

Students will memorize portions of Scripture as outlined in the memorization schedule.

Book Reading

Students will read assigned text books according to the reading schedule.

Devotional 

Students will open one class period with a devotional on an assigned or agreed upon passage.

Mentorship

Each student will be required to have an approved mentor with monthly reporting.

Project

Each student will complete a written hermeneutics project on a specific passage of Scripture.
