Welcome to Choir!

Grace Notes Choir exists to glorify God though the development of music in the lives of Elementary, Junior, and High School Homeschoolers from all across the greater Redding area. If you love to sing and desire to learn music theory, this is a place for you to learn musical skills as you grow in your relationship with the Lord.

SEMESTER DATES (ALL TUESDAYS)

New Family Orientation ~ August 25th @ 2pm; New Student Vocal Interviews @3:15pm

No Rehearsal for PR/JR (SR Rehearsal Only)

Tech/Dress Rehearsal Day ~ Dec. 1st (1-4:30pm ALL choirs together)

Choir Times & Tuition

Primary Choir

The choir is for children ages 7-9. Children should be mature enough to follow directions in a group setting. Parents are encouraged to stay if their student needs extra support. There is a strong focus on steady beat and unison singing.

Meets Tuesday: 1pm-1:40pm
$85/student

Junior Choir

This choir is designed for students 9-13. If boys voices have lowered significantly, they will probably be most comfortable in the Sr. Choir. There is focus on 2-part singing, musical notation reading, and creative expression.

Meets Tuesday: 1:50pm-2:45pm
$95/student

End of semester, students are asked to stay until 3pm to overlap with SR choir for the combined song.

Senior Choir

This choir is for ages 13 and up. The group sings in 4 part harmony and often includes solo opportunities. Recently graduated high schoolers may apply to the director also. Student leadership and section leaders are chosen by the Director.

Meets Tuesday: 3pm-4:05pm
$105/student

End of semester, students are asked to start at 2:45pm to overlap with JR choir for the combined song.

Chamber Choirs

For existing Sr. Choir members, these challenging groups are formed by audition at semester's start. They usually consist of ~12 members and may sing 6+ part harmony. Ex: Chamber Choir, Ladies ensemble, Mixed chorus etc...

Meets Tuesday: 4:10pm-4:45pm
$30/student

Ages listed above are general guidelines, but the director will consider exceptions on a case by case basis.
Grace Notes Choirs are open to like-minded Christian Homeschool families outside of Grace Baptist Church  
who are willing to work together and glorify Christ.

CHoir Director 

Meet Cheryl Dummer

Cheryl (Purcell) Dummer began her musical training in preschool and has been singing in choirs and playing piano ever since! She thanks her parents for the many ways they invested in her musical and spiritual training.

Cheryl followed the Lord in baptism at age 12, happy to declare Jesus Christ as her Savior and Lord. She was mentored by the worship team at Yakima Alliance Church in Washington, where she discovered her passion for worshipping the Lord through music.

She moved to Redding and earned her music degree from Simpson University, where she served as the student choir conductor. Cheryl has taught choir at Redding Christian School, directed the worship team and choir at Destiny Fellowship, and served as music director for three youth musicals put on by the Redding Arts Project.
She taught piano proficiency classes and music theory as an adjunct professor in Simpson’s Music Department. Mrs. Dummer finds great joy to still be connected to so many former students and their families.

Mrs. Dummer is passionate about helping her students to grow in their relationship with Christ, to build healthy friendships, and to develop their God-given gifts!

Currently, Cheryl serves with her engineer-husband, Jonathan, and their two musical teenagers on the Cow Creek Community Church worship team. She now works as the Office Manager at Grace Baptist during the week, and directs the Grace Notes Choir Tuesday afternoons.

Cheryl loves to bake, walk, sew, kayak and thrift. She prefers tea over coffee, and fruit more than dessert!
