Did you know that all believers are called to be biblical counselors?

Scripture tells us that believers are to admonish one another (Acts 20:31; Rom. 15:14; Col. 3:16), comfort one another with the truth of God’s Word (1 Thess. 4:18) and point each other to the Lord, who is the God of all comfort (2 Cor. 1:3-7). Believers are to encourage one another and build each other up (1 Thess. 5:11; Heb. 3:13) and exhort each other (Acts 20:1-2).

Biblical Counseling at Grace

Biblical counseling is about offering guidance and counsel to others from the Word of God. We believe the Bible is sufficient to address all of the problems we face in life.
Our goal is to provide counseling to those in need, and to equip believers to be biblical counselors in the home and the church.

What is biblical counseling?

Biblical counseling is counsel from the Bible to address the variety of situations and circumstances that we find ourselves in. It is one of the ways we are discipled and grow in sanctification. The Bible is trustworthy and sufficient for all we need in life and godliness (2 Tim. 3:16-17; 2 Pet. 1:3-4).

More about Biblical Counseling
God has positioned believers to have the ability and access into one another’s lives so that we may guide each other to Him and encourage each other in the application of His Word. Believers find themselves in a variety of settings and situations in need of biblical correction, instruction and encouragement (1 Thess. 5:14). Believers have a responsibility to show love and care for one another by providing encouragement, advice, wisdom and support, which we often call counseling.

All marriages face threats and challenges to the oneness God designed in our marriages. In this book Wayne Mack helps his readers recognize and meet the challenges by taking a biblical look at God's design in marriage in our roles, communication, finances, sex, child rearing and family worship. There are a host of study questions for discussion and application included in each chapter.

Depression

This book provides step-by-step encouragement and instruction to develop a plan to overcome depression. Authored by a pastor and a medical physician (both of whom struggled with depression) this book weaves together both spiritual and medical principles in a compassionate, understanding and hope-filled way.

Counseling

This book just might transform how you view yourself and engage with others. God radically changes people, and uses us, by His power, to be involved in this process. We are being changed by Him, and can learn to be effective instruments  of His love in the lives of the people around us.

biblical basis

Scripture outlines a variety of reasons why we should be involved in the ministry of biblical counseling.
Select Biblical Basis
Scripture tells us that believers are to admonish one another (Acts 20:31; Rom. 15:14; Col. 3:16), comfort one another with the truth of God’s Word (1 Thess. 4:18) and point each other to the Lord, the God of all comfort (2 Cor. 1:3-7). theology and counseling

One’s theology will affect how they understand and implement biblical counseling. It affects our approach, method, goals and purposes in counseling.
The relationship of theology on Biblical Counseling
Our theology forms the theological and practical grid for our counseling. Scripture is a sufficient framework to help us understand God, the world, humanity and the problems encountered as these intersect.
When rightly understood, Scripture will form a sufficient understanding to live biblically in all of life’s uniqueness and complexness. We have sufficient truth to live life as God intends, both individually and with others.

purposes

The purposes of our counseling ministry are to help believers grow in Christ, point them to the Lord and to obedience to His word, provide tangible care and assistance in navigating life, as well as provide biblical wisdom and assistance in various life situations.

needs

There are a variety of presenting symptoms that call for counseling.
Specific Needs
Some of the situations that call for biblical counseling include (but aren’t limited to): crisis situations in marriages and homes, addictions, trauma, deaths, personal failure and sin, family trials, and many others. Because of the effects of sin, people need biblical counseling. People need to be pointed to the God of all hope, and find their fulfillment and rest in Him regardless of what they are facing.
