What is 1-1-Discipleship?

One on One discipleship describes the unique relationship in which a believer purposefully walks along side of another believer in such a way as to assist, encourage, and stimulate them to grow to be more like Christ. This intentional life on life relationship encourages both the discipler/mentor and the disciple/mentee into a deepening relationship of submission and obedience of the Lord and His truth.

The Bible on Discipleship

What is Discipleship? Why are we endeavoring to do this? Is this Biblical?
Prior to His ascension, Christ commissioned His own disciples to make disciples, as they went throughout the world (Matt. 28:19-20). Individuals must first be saved (Mk. 16:15) before they can become disciples of Christ (John 8:30-31).

Making disciples is at the heart of local church ministry and happens through a variety of means (e.g. preaching, teaching, fellowship ministries). As a local church we do not want to outsource our responsibility of discipleship. One important way of discipling is through one-on-one (or individual) relationships, or small group discipleship (e.g. 1-on-4).

Christ’s final commission in Matthew 28:19-20 reveals three primary means or ways in which we make disciples. We are to assist disciples as they grow to identify with Christ, learn His ways and walk in them, and then reproduce by making other disciples.
